Human Rights Activism by Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin are the co-founders of Phoenix New Times and Village Voice media. They formed both institutions while still young and had innovative ideas before starting to venture into them. Lacey and Larkin received 3.75$ million in which it was a settlement by the court as they were convicted for revealing the existence of the grand jury covered up by Sheriff Joe.

The money received was used to support and fund migrants rights organizations in Arizona. However, the two had persecuted the county for its acts and violating the immigrants’ rights.Other than supporting the immigrants, Lacey and Larkin Frontera fund offered support to the groupsthat advocated for freedom of speech and civic education.

During 2007, Lacey and Larkin composed a narrative in Phoenix outlining the acts of Sheriff Joe such as the conditions in the jail, his racial discrimination and many other wrongs he committed while in charge. The fund received from the court was also used to fight for Hispanic civil rights.

Both Lacey and Larkin formed the Village voice media in 1970 as a weekly newspaper in Arizona. The two have helped a lot of children and women from the immigrants crisis in which they have suffered due to unprocessed reforms. There are several groups and organizations which correspond to the Lacey and Larkin Frontera fund which include the Border Angels.

It is a non –profit organization located in San Diego which was formed by Enrique morones in 1986. Its main agendas include the migrant rights, immigration reforms and avoidance of death while crossing the border.

Border Angels also involves itself in several community platforms such as participating in community education and awareness programs. It donated over 45 tons of books, food, toys and clothing for the migrants who had nothing to consume.
