Ben Roethlisberger Helped Create Success In The NFL And His Community
An NFL football team with an outstanding quarterback can lead to positive results. Fortunately, the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Ben Roethlisberger for this position in 2004. His skills and passion for the game helped the team complete several victories during the 18 seasons he played for them.
Backyard Football
Like many kids, Ben enjoyed playing football in the backyard with friends and dreamed of becoming a professional. He began progressing toward this goal in high school when he was chosen as the leading quarterback in 12th grade. Fortunately, the hard work and years of backyard games paid off, and Ben did well in this position. Ben Roethlisberger excelled in basketball and baseball, acting as a team captain for all three sports.
College Career
After high school, Ben chose to play for the Miami of Ohio RedHawks after being recruited by them and Ohio State University. He prayed about this decision and talked to his family before making a final choice. 2001 was his first year to play for the team, and he completed 21 different school records from 2001 through 2003, including 854 completions, 10,829 passing yards, 84 touchdown passes and 14 300-yard games.
Playing in the NFL
The Pittsburgh Steelers chose Ben Roethlisberger in the first round of the 2004 NFL draft. His 6 foot five, 240-pound frame made it challenging for competitors to defend against, giving him the nickname “Big Ben.” He quickly got up to speed and became a leading offensive player, helping the team win two Super Bowl championships during his career with the Steelers.
Philanthropic Work
Ben strongly advocates philanthropy and enjoys giving back to the community. He has been primarily involved with three passions in this area. One was started by himself, the Roethlisberger Family Foundation. He has also helped NeoLight and the Light of Life Rescue Mission. See related link for additional information.
