Colcom Foundation supports local Charities That Give Back To The Communities
Colcom Foundation was created by Cordelia S. May in 1996 but it was not funded until 2005 after her death. Cordelia was a visionary who realized the ever growing population of the Earth was placing a strain on the natural resourced provided by the planet. This was recognized on a global level as many countries had extensive pollution and slums created by overpopulation.
The Colcom Foundation mainly works in southwest Pennsylvania and focuses on the local environment and the local community. Education and the media are utilized to help spread awareness of the pollution of the natural water ways and the natural forests. The foundation encourages people to be mindful of their waste and their environmental footprint.
The Colcom Foundation brings awareness in many various ways to the people of the greater Pittsburg area. Some of these ways include the student conservation association. This group provides year round opportunities within conservation studies and outreach to the youth in the greater Pittsburg region. Additionally, the foundation also focuses on arts and community involvement with the “We are Nature” exhibit at the Carnegie Museum of natural history.
The Community Kitchen of Pittsburg also helps those who are struggling to feed themselves an opportunity to learn how to be more self-reliant and cook for themselves as well as grow their own food. Also, The foundation believes in giving back to veterans by working with the Guardian Angels Medical Service Dog Foundation to provide service dogs to veterans in need. All of these amazing services were created to help improve the lives of those living in the region and to bring awareness to the resources around them.
The Colcom Foundation proudly supports all of these charitable projects within the southeastern portion of Pennsylvania, in addition to the small foundations previously mentioned, they also support the American Red Cross and larger foundations that proudly give back to the community.
