Health Carousel Supports DAISY Awards in Cameroon
The DAISY (Digital Accessible Information SYstem) Awards celebrate the inclusion and integration of people with disabilities into all areas of the information society to reduce or remove obstacles to access. Health Carousel is proud to support them this year, so we will donate four healthcare-related ebooks from our catalogue. This will allow publishing in accessible formats (DAISY and Braille) that can be read on many different devices. Nurse Recognition Is Key to Retention and Satisfaction Amid Tough Conditions
Cameroon’s healthcare system is in dire need of improvement, but nurses are vital to achieving this goal. Many healthcare professionals will attest to the importance of keeping happy and healthy staff, and supporting staff happy and healthy is a critical element of retaining good HCPs. According to Andrew Lingo, Director of Ethical Recruitment and Sustainability for Health Carousel, it is vital for healthcare professionals to feel appreciated and not just seen as a resource. “Although HCPs should be respected for their role in society and even revered, it takes more than cultural reverence to make them feel valued. There also has to be economic value in their work,” Lingo explains. He believes that the better the working conditions, the more inspiring they are. One way this is achieved is by making nurses feel like they are part of something larger than themselves and their job.
