Colcom Foundation Is Working To Make The World Better

There is much to be said about an organization that wants to protect life and the environment, which is what the Colcom Foundation is working toward. While not every aspect of what the Foundation wants is in line with every person, it is working to do good in the Pittsburgh area and further afield.

The founder Cordelia May started seeing the need for charitable acts from the time she was 23 but would wait till she was 68 to found Colcom. Upon her death in 2005, it became well-funded from her estate and works to be a testament to her philosophy.

The primary work of Colcom Foundation is to help the environment, specifically the area around Pittsburgh. They help educate people about what needs to be done, legally protect those working to help the environment, and fund those organizations working on helping. The funds are primarily used near the home of the Foundation, but it has reached into some national organizations. This does not change that they help people from school age to die. They also help with the arts and culture for a few organizations and help keep parks that people love to stroll through.

Colcom Foundation’s work has also facilitated proactive environmental advocacy and protection by groups, including the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, WeConservePA, Westmoreland Land Trust, Protect PT, and Fair Shake Environmental Legal Services.

While not everyone agrees with all aspects of the Foundation’s largesse, many see good in what money it uses. There was a time when the environment around Pittsburgh was in shambles because of the necessary steel industry, but that is no longer the case since the plants shut down.

The people of the city have wanted better, and Colcom Foundation is one of several groups working to make this happen. The dreams of Cordelia May seem to have been realized with Colcom, which took large sums of money to happen. Many people have benefited from the work that has been going for decades.
