Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation, Under CEO Shelton Haynes, Finalizes Riverwalk Neighborhood with Developers
Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC) announced plans to develop the Riverwalk neighborhood, to construct 200 residential units and 150 hotel rooms on the 2-acre site. The mission of RIOC is to create a “small town in the city” that would complement and enhance life on Roosevelt Island. RIOC’s development plan includes completed and under-construction housing, market rate, and affordable housing. According to CEO Shelton Haynes, the Riverwalk neighborhood will be one of the unique residential communities in New York City. The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC) secured funding for the Riverwalk project, a local government created by the New York City Department of City Planning and the Rockefeller Group.
Shelton Haynes and RIOC See Decades-Old Dreams Come True
RIOC has assembled a who of national architects to design the neighborhood along the East River waterfront on Roosevelt Island between 45th and 46th Streets, featuring a unique residential experience. In addition to the Riverwalk development and renovation of the existing Roosevelt Island Light Rail station, RIOC’s daily operations are overseen by its CEO, Shelton Haynes. The island is home to over 10,000 citizens. There are open fields, tree-lined streets, and parks. This is a verdant haven for those living in lower Manhattan’s concrete jungle.
Retail, Fine Dining, Student Life, and the Graduate Roosevelt Island Hotel Arrive
RIOC has partnered with local restaurateurs to create retail and dining options within the Riverwalk neighborhood, which will be completed beyond just residential. The Roosevelt Island Hotel by Marriott is presently being constructed on the site. Still, in its present form, it will also be home to various upscale boutiques, including a gourmet supermarket, specialty food market, and wine shop. The hotel is also expected to feature 1,000 students attending the nearby City College of New York (CUNY). Roosevelt Island is a unique place where uniqueness thrives.
RIOC, Shelton, Finish FDR Memorial That Began in 1973
The new FDR memorial is part of an ongoing series of projects that bring life to the island. Other recent projects include the reconstruction of the Roosevelt Island Tramway, new benches, and a film series. Another accomplishment of RIOC is that they’ve completed a project they began in 1973. RIOC and its CEO, Shelton Haynes, unveiled the park’s final stage in July 2021.
